Dear Fellow Democrats,

My name is Cass Callaway, and I am the Democratic candidate for Dallas County Criminal Court of Appeals #1. This criminal court handles appeals cases from justice and municipal courts as well as administering a mental health diversion program.

My Qualifications...

I believe I have the right experience to be an excellent Judge. The work I do today has prepared me for precisely the kinds of cases heard by this court. Currently, I work as an appointed Associate Municipal Judge and a criminal defense attorney in private practice.  I have extensive experience with Class C criminal cases, the most common type of case handled by the bench I seek.

All told, I have handled over 400 criminal cases, from Class C to first degree felonies, at the trial and appellate levels.  I have also worked on both sides of criminal cases, as a defense attorney and as a prosecutor, so I have the broad perspective to be a fair and unbiased Judge.

I have a thorough understanding of the law and trial procedures, based on my work in courtrooms throughout North Texas in Dallas, Denton, Tarrant, Johnson, Ellis and Parker counties.  I also regularly attend the Advanced Criminal Law Seminar and the revered Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association Criminal Trial College to stay informed on the latest developments in criminal trial law.

My Background as a Democrat...

I offer the sound knowledge and experience necessary to be a good Judge, and I am also a committed, life-long Democrat who has worked hard for Democrats in Dallas County and beyond for many years.  By contrast, my opponent in this race is a longtime, dedicated Republican who has decided to run in the Democratic Primary only recently, because of changing voting patterns in Dallas County.

My involvement in Democratic politics began early with Gov. Ann Richards. I then worked in the White House for Vice President Al Gore. During law school, I had the distinct honor to work for then Mayor Ron Kirk on his 2002 U.S. Senate campaign. In 2004, I came to Dallas to work for Katy Hubener's pioneering campaigns for the Texas House that paved the way for Democratic representation for House District 106.

And most recently, I joined millions of Democrats working together to elect President Barack Obama. During election time, I was in Ohio serving the campaign as a voter protection attorney making sure people's votes counted.

Endorse My Campaign Today...

My race has already built momentum with the endorsements of Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, former Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell, Representative Rafael Anchia, Dallas County Schoolboard Member Ann Hubener, Dallas County Clerk John Warren, Dallas County District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons, and many more.  I would be honored to have your name on my list of supporters as well.  Please complete the form on the Volunteer page and check the "I endorse Cass Callaway" box.  Together I know we will be victorious.

As I have campaigned across Dallas County, I have come to realize that there are so many energized Democrats excited about what the future holds. I am proud to be a part of this energy as a Democratic candidate for Judge, and once elected, I pledge to serve Dallas County with distinction and strong ethics.

If you have any questions about my campaign or just want to learn more about me, I invite you to call me personally at 214-808-8958.

Warmest regards,
Cass Robert Callaway
